2021年11月11日Mayakkam enna is a Tamil-language film released in 2014, written, co-produced and directed by newcomer S. A. Chandrasekhar. The film stars debutant Amy Jackson alongside comedian Jeeva in the lead roles, while Karthik Kumar plays an antagonist role. Despite being shot on a shoestring budget of 4 million, the movie has won many accolades including Best Film at the 57th Kerala State Film Awards and National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil at the 61st National Film Awards.
The film was remade in Malayalam as "Njan Steve Lopez" in 2015, with the same cast and crew.
Maya (Amy Jackson), a naïve young woman from Ooty, comes to Chennai for a job interview. At the railway station, she is accosted by a pickpocket named Gokul (Jeeva). Following a brief scuffle, she loses her purse and mobile phone. As it turns out, Gokul is also going to the city for an interview. They share a cab into town and continue to squabble all along their way.
At the interview, Maya impresses the interviewer (M. S. Bhaskar), who is impressed by her English, by speaking the technical details of the spare parts used in an Ooty plant for an internal combustion engine. The interview ends up with Gokul making a surprise appearance and offering to take her to lunch at "Mig mimicry Hall" (building). Initially, she is reluctant to go with him, but he convinces her that he knows about her lost purse and phone. He takes her to "Uttam’s Spice Emporium", where they split up to look for them in different rooms. She finds her purse and tries to leave, but runs into Gokul, who grabs it back. He gives her a choice: either she can eat lunch or get her purse. She chooses the former and ends up eating at the restaurant, where he performs his juggling act using utensils and glasses. She is both astonished and amused by the trick.
Later at the building, Gokul continues to insist that he help find her phone and forces her to take him along when she goes to report it lost in a police station. The inspector there (Vaiyapuri) refuses to register a complaint because Maya cannot provide information on who stole it from her. Maya and Gokul leave in a taxi, but Maya is forced to get off when Gokul punches the driver for refusing to give them a flat fare. The inspector finally registers the complaint and Maya returns to get her purse from an open desk drawer. But it turns out that the desk clerk (Vinitha) had replaced her purse with another, and she ends up getting robbed by a pickpocket named Babu (Karthik Kumar).
